The Opening Assembly Luncheon is the first official session of the conference where the leadership conference is introduced to the local community. Events of the three-day leadership conference are presented to the community and conferees, including remarks from the NAC and NPAC president, recognition of Miss National UNCF and welcome from the local host committee.
The National Pre-Alumni students, NAC alumni and the local community mingle and exchange information in an informal atmosphere and across all member UNCF institutions at the Welcome Reception. Representatives from the local host Pre-Alumni Councils provide entertainment, and light refreshments are served.
The Leaders Luncheon, formerly the Corporate Luncheon, is designed to introduce UNCF, its members, alumni and students to the local corporate community. The luncheon features a high-profile graduate of a UNCF member school from the local corporate community as the speaker. This event is open to the community.
CAREER READINESS DAY
The Career Readiness Day is designed to empower our students to effectively navigate pathways that connect education and employment to achieve a fulfilling, financially-secure and successful career. Because a career is more than just a job, Career Readiness is a continuing education philosophy. How does one become “career ready” in our ever-changing global economy? One must adapt a commitment to lifelong learning, along with mastery of key academic, technical and workplace knowledge, skills and dispositions that vary from one career to another and change over time as a person progresses along a developmental continuum. The Career Readiness Day discusses Knowledge, skills and dispositions that are inter-dependent and mutually reinforcing in an ever-changing global economy.
Hall Of Honor: UNCF Legacy Award Gala
The UNCF Legacy Award Gala is an evening of special recognition. The UNCF National Alumni Council honors alumnus who have been selected by their respective UNCF alma maters to receive the UNCF-NAC Hall of Honor award. These individuals have made significant contributions to their alma mater, their professions and the community.
The Legacy Award
The Legacy Award honors an individual who has a long standing record of encouraging students and/or colleagues to realize their full potential and have helped others find ways to achieve their best. Qualified individuals are those rare professionals whose accomplishments have touched the lives of others and have helped to launch the careers of others toward new horizons, based on the accomplishments of the honoree. Previous Legacy Award honorees include Nikki Giovanni, Tom Joyner, Congressman John Lewis, Dr. Calvin Mackie, Roland Martin, Soledad O’Brien, Lou Rawls, Lionel Richie, Desiree Rogers, Carolyn House Stewart and Susan Taylor. The gala also include the UNCF Hall of Honor which is bestowed upon individual alumni nominated by UNCFs member schools.
Miss National UNCF Coronation
The climax of the annual leadership conference is the crowning of Miss National UNCF. Miss UNCF candidates are selected on the basis of funds raised at institutions they represent. Miss National UNCF is the representative of the institution that raises the largest amount of funds per capita in odd years and the largest amount raised regardless of per capita in even years. The evening of festivities includes a display of talent, awards and scholarship presentations.
