An Evening of Stars® is a tribute with a purpose. It’s about big talent coming together to help big dreams come true. Once every year, Hollywood’s biggest stars come out to support talented students with dreams of getting a college education. It’s a time when new artists join seasoned masters on one stage in a united effort to celebrate and support minority education. Truly a concert for a cause, An Evening of Stars® benefits UNCF's historically black colleges and universities.
UNCF’s collaboration with singers, stage and screen actors, record producers, authors and professional athletes is legendary, making An Evening of Stars® one of television’s most enduring annual specials. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2009, AEOS
® has hosted a who’s who of superstars including John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Stevie Wonder, Fantasia, Aretha Franklin, Smokey Robinson, Natalie Cole, Ne-Yo, Hill Harper, Heather Headley, Lou Rawls, Oprah, Ray Charles, Mo’Nique, Quincy Jones, Tom Joyner and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, to name just a few.
An Evening of Stars® is for and about America’s rising stars. The show is one of UNCF's most successful and important fundraising events. It emphasizes the importance of higher education, while spotlighting the achievements of UNCF students, alumni, member institutions, supporters and sponsors.
From its spectacular opening number to the presentation of UNCF’s Award of Excellence at the end of the program, An Evening of Stars® is non-stop entertainment. Behind the scenes, and returning for his 12th year as executive producer and director of An Evening of Stars® is five-time Emmy® Award winner Louis J. Horvitz, whose numerous credits include directing the Primetime Emmy Awards a total of 14 times, including the 2008 broadcast; 12 years directing The Academy Awards, The Kennedy Center Honors, which he has directed for 16 years; and The American Film Institute (AFI) tributes, which he has directed for the past seven years. For his work on behalf of UNCF, Horvitz and his team received a prestigious NAACP Image Award in 2006 for An Evening of Stars Tribute to Stevie Wonder.
An Evening of Stars® plays to a full house. Audience members travel from all over the United States to attend the show, which is taped at the famed Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California. It’s a special time for all. But the true excitement comes when the show makes its national television debut in January before millions of American viewers. UNCF invites you to come for the concert and stay for the cause!
