  • The students UNCF traditionally serves are from low- to moderate-income families and are often the first in their family to attend college.  More than 50 percent of our scholars come from families with incomes under $30,000 per year.
  • Prince George’s County, MD, is the site of the first Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Celebration Breakfast hosted by UNCF—a celebration started in 1983, well before the holiday was nationally recognized.
  • Northern Virginia boasts some of our strongest supporters from the faith community, led by Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria.

UNCF’s prestigious National “A Mind Is …”® Gala convened March 2 in the nation’s capital was a night to remember, raising more than $1 million to support UNCF-member institutions, other HBCUs and students of color to go to and through college.

More than 500 guests, including several UNCF board members, member presidents and alumni from UNCF’s 37 member institutions were in attendance. Legacy sponsors of the gala were Chevron and ExxonMobil. >>Read More
